With over 150 miles
of coastline, and over 32 miles of beaches, your choices of where to
sunbathe, swim, and surf are almost limitless. The most
plentiful beaches for swimming and sunbathing are found on West Maui,
where 18 glorious miles of beaches stretch from Kapalua to Olowalu.
Obviously, to find the best stretches of beaches, look for the massive
hotels around Kaanapali and Kapalua. D.T. Fleming Beach is
another good one for families. At the south end of Kihei,
the Kamaole beaches are excellent as well. Further south, Mokapu,
Ulua, Wailea, and Polo beaches are all small and surrounded by the
beautiful hotels of Wailea, and Makena beach is one of the island's
best. Hana also offers several beautiful beaches, if you're out
that way.
If you're a
clothing-optional sort, you're in luck too! Although nude
beaches are against Hawaiian rules,
Little Beach, a foot trail away from Makena beach, seems to be an
exception. The best windsurfing beaches are found near Paia on
the North Shore, while most of the shore diving spots are found near
Makena and Wailea. Black Rock at the Sheraton is a good
snorkeling spot, as are Honolua Bay, Mokuleia Bay, Napili Bay, Olowalu,
Kamaole Park, Ulua, Polo, and Wailea beaches.
