BROADMOOR GOLF CLUB -
OUR COMMENTS
Maintenance: The overall
maintenance of the course is very good, but there were areas
on the fairways that could use some tuning up, as you see in
the photo above. Certainly nice to play, though.
Scenery: Beautiful course - lots of
water as you cross over creeks, the Columbia Slough, and other
waterways. Nice vistas from the 1st and 10th holes
especially. The only drawback is a couple of holes that
border the Airport - kind of cool seeing the planes come in so
close, but the noise detracts from the serenity, and it isn't
bordered off well by the landscaping. However, these few
holes don't take away from the overall beauty of this course.
We were so relaxed after playing a round here...
Fun: The fairways are mostly
straight, but the relief of the ground is constantly changing,
and you hit back and forth over the waterways which is fun.
We enjoyed this course very much - quite challenging,
actually, and quite interesting. There are some really
nice hills like right off the first tee too - the 9th hole is
a nice uphill jaunt.
Safety: The fairways are mostly
lined with trees, providing a nice barrier for stray golf
balls, and are spaced enough we didn't notice any issue with
this. The course doesn't cross any streets which is nice
too.
Staff: The guys seem nice enough -
we didn't interact with them enough to get a good feel,
though...
Design: The lay of the land is well
played here - lots of terrain, even though the fairways are
quite straight. The landscape is very beautiful, and the
many natural features of the course are well integrated.
There were several places we thought they could have
integrated the water features more into the holes, however,
and we do wish all the fairways weren't so straight. We
like variety.
Value: For the $9 for 9 holes
or $17.50 for 18 holes you'll pay with the
Entertainment Book, this course is a heck of
a value for the money.
Other Comments: The course is
convenient to get to in North Portland - it's location on
Columbia allows you to avoid much of the traffic if you're
coming in from Vancouver like us. We really enjoyed that
once we went to the back of the clubhouse where the course is,
we could never imagine that just a few steps away was the busy
industrial district and a major highway. Quiet, serene,
and peaceful - miles away from all that ruckuss. |
