End of the Road
During our 3 month trip
to China and South East Asia, we had the opportunity to
visit 6 different countries.
In China, we experienced 9 cities, all spread out across
the country. We went on motorcycles to the Great Wall,
explored the temples, monasteries and the magnificent Potala Palace in
Lhasa, cruised the amazing landforms of the Li River, explored the
fascinating history
of the Terra Cotta Warriors, and watched as the sun set
over Hong Kong, one of the world's most beautiful and lovely
skylines.
Thailand was just wonderful; the people - so kind, the food
- sooooo good, white water rafting in Chiang Mai - absolute
fun, "mahouting" in the Golden Triangle - oh amazing, and
eyeing Sukhothai ruins - truly spectacular.
While in Laos, we really enjoyed the city of Luang Prabang
as we visited hillside villages and met up with local people.
Just beautiful scenery all along the way, multi colors of
green everywhere, difficult to describe really, very remote
from the world, yet so present, with people and nature flowing
together as one.
Vietnam was as beautiful
as the "talk on the street" goes. Truly a country filled
with rich and revealing history and a developing present.
We motorbiked in the countryside of Hoi-An, especially
fun when "somebody" fell off his bike (heh heh heh),
toured the Mekong Delta by bike for 3 days, cruised on a "junk"
on Halong Bay, scenery so unique, and explored the infamous
Cu Chi Tunnels just outside Saigon.
Cambodia is a country
that is still very much in the forefront of development,
investment and expansion. Although a recent horrific past,
there is much to celebrate about the current people and
its rich culture. Angkor Wat is truly in a league of its
own. Wow, the magnificent sight is difficult to express
in words.
Overall, we had a spectacular time during our first trip
to the far East, and we are very grateful and appreciative
of all the people, incredible guides, and friends we have
come across. Your kindness will never be forgotten, thank
you from the bottom of both our hearts to all of yours.
Best, Johann & Sandra
