Beaches of Molokai
Molokai's beaches
are very diverse, ranging from the sweet, calm, romantic, sandy beaches
of the northwest coast to vast rocky expanses where one can gaze with
awe at the power of the crashing waves against the east coast. Halawa
Bay, on Molokai's far east end, is known as the best all-around beach
on the island. The people of Moloka'i tend to gather at the vast
beaches at the northwest corner of the island, such as Papohaku and Kepuhui
Beaches.
The beaches here are
very secluded, as Molokai's tourist population is a fraction of that of
the larger islands. For those of you who prefer the all-over tan,
there are no designated nude beaches on Moloka'i, but the public beaches,
such as Papohaku, are vast, offering a huge selection of secluded areas.
Halawa Bay, Pohakuloa
Point, Moomomi Beach, and Kepuhi Beach offer good surfing, and Kawakiu
Beach has huge waves in the winter months for you experts out there.
Halawa Bay probably offers the best snorkeling, while Moomomi Beach and
Kawakiu Beach are also quite good.
