We didn't do too much partying in Cozumel, since we always had
to get up early to go diving, however we did notice a few spots
worth mentioning. In addition to the spots we found,
Neptuno
and Scaramouche are major discos, and
Platino's
offers exotic dancers in a night club atmosphere. We also went
to another night club with really bad music on New Year's Eve,
but we can't remember the name of it!
This was a
wild and crazy place. It reminded us of El
Squid Roe in Cabo San Lucas. There was much
drinking, dancing, and all-around partying.
We only stayed to have a beer and check out what
they had going on for New Year's Eve. They
had a Millennium package for $100 which included
open bar, dinner, and a souvenir package, but we
opted not to. The crowd was primarily college-aged
kids, although there were older people there too.
If you want to get really drunk and have lots of
fun doing it, this would be the spot.
Fat Tuesday
This place was an outdoor bar with a covered roof.
The drinks were huge, we saw, and they played really
good music. Its located right on the North
side of the plaza. On New Year's Eve, they
set up big speakers outside, and everyone danced,
drank and partied. It was a nice atmosphere
they set up, we thought, and we joined in!
We saw most of the people we had been diving with
there too! The place was packed, and everyone
had fun until such morning hours as we didn't survive
to see.
Shopping - We didn't do much shopping
this time around, but there is the usual flea market, where
you can haggle with the merchants, and other shops selling touristy
items. We were amazed at the amount of jewelry stores!
It seemed like they were everywhere!
Diving - This is
the principal reason for coming to Cozumel. Absolutely
beautiful. We chose
Dive With Martin out of the over 100 dive shops on the island
for our trip. Visit our
Cozumel Diving
page for the scoop on how it went and what we saw.
Snorkeling - Excellent snorkeling outside our hotel, the
Coral Princess Club. Also good at Chankanaub Ecological
Park, and outside most of the hotels. Beautiful, clear
water. Check out our
snorkeling page
to find out how it went and what we saw.
Water Sports - You can surf on the east side of the island,
and there are wave runners for rent at most hotels. Water
skiing,
parasailing,
windsurfing,
sailing, and
deep-sea
fishing are all popular here.
Tours - A host of tour operators offer snorkeling tours, jungle
tours, city tours, island tours, and Mayan ruins tours.
The island is so small, that we just rented a car and drove
around the island. The East side of the island is uninhabited
and just beautiful.
