Willamette Valley Vineyards
On a
hilltop just
off Interstate-5 near Turner, Oregon lies one of the premier wineries
in Oregon. The tasting room is perched on top of a hill
overlooking the valley below. Weddings are common on these
facilities, and concerts are held here in the summer. The
tasting list is tops in the Willamette Valley region, with over 25
wines available for tasting, ranging from their signature Pinot Noir
to Viognier to Muscat to Syrah. Clearly the cream of the crop
are their stunning varieties of Pinot Noir, with the 1998 Founder's
Reserve tempting our taste buds in just the right way.
We also trotted home with a bottle or two of the Griffin Creek line,
always excellent. Willamette Valley's wines
have been featured in the Top 100 wines in the world, and have won
numerous awards, on display in their trophy room.
We've
visited this winery several times, and the ambience is excellent.
With a large deck and chairs out back, overlooking the vineyard and
the valley below, we often bring a picnic and enjoy a glass of wine
while relaxing or listening to Jazz in season. They have
standard fare in the tasting room, from t-shirts to mustard to
chocolates to wine glasses. To reach the vineyard, travel south
of Portland on I-5, past Salem, and take the Turner exit. Take a
left under the freeway, and travel just past the Enchanted Forest
where you'll see the sign on the left. You can see more photos
of the vineyard in our Oregon
Slide Show.
