Kayak accident: A kayaker whose boat became lodged in rapids along the Washougal River in Skamania County on Tuesday was taken to a hospital.

Rescuers were called to the scene near Milepost 12 along Washougal River Road just after 5 p.m., said Skamania County Sheriff Dave Brown. After taking the kayaker to a local hospital, officers noticed a man stranded on the wrong side of the river. Skamania sheriff's Sgt. Arne Gonser put on a wet suit, went to the stranded person and hooked him to a harness and rope. The victim then was pulled safely across the river, Brown said.

The identities and conditions of the victims were not available Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the body of a 32-year-old Portland woman who was thrown from a whitewater raft into the Wind River in Skamania County on April 27 had not been recovered as of Tuesday. Lauren Orton is missing and presumed drowned.
